Sustainability
KD Farms Trucking, Inc. was formed in 2015 to pick up local discarded food and distribute the food to our sister company, Frank Konyn Dairy. Today, we pick up over 18,000 tons of brewery grains, vegetable and fruit pulp, and discarded baked goods per year. All of these cast off human waste products get repurposed with the help of a nutritionist into feed rations for the dairy cattle. The dairy cattle in turn produce nearly 8,000 gallons of milk on a daily basis that gets turned into high protein food for humans in products such as butter, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, and fluid milk.
Our other sister company, San Pasqual Valley Soils, is a permitted composting facility that takes the dairy manure produced by the cows at Frank Konyn Dairy and composts it along with landscape trimmings. Over 14,000 tons of tree branches and plant trimmings is diverted from our local landfills each year and turned into a variety of specialty composts, mulches and potting mixes.
Recycling on both ends of the cow helps divert materials from the landfills, creates human food sources, and produces soils to rebuild the environment. We are proud to be promoting sustainability and creating some wonderful synergies for the city of San Diego and the entire San Diego County!
